A will is a legal document that contains your wishes with regards to the distribution of your property, financial and other assets post your demise. If you die without a will, those wishes may not be fulfilled or carried out in a manner that you would have wanted. Further, your heirs/ family members may end up debating, fighting or spending time, money, and energy to settle your affairs after you are no more.
Failure to prepare a will typically leave decisions about your wealth and properties in the hands of lawyers and may also cause differences among family members or other claimants. You yourself can prepare a will, but you should have the same witnessed to reduce or eliminate the likelihood of someone challenging it later. Ideally, to be completely sure that you leave everything in order, you must consider having a will written / prepared by a competent attorney.
